Volleyball, the ER, and licorice

the past 24 hours have been hectic. SG and I went to play ball at TL last night. in our second game, one of our supposed "A" level players (of which he is NOT... more like a B- level player), hogged SG's ball of which i set to HER, and collided with her in mid-air AFTER she yelled for it.

all 6 foot something, 180 (?) pounds of him fell on her and all the weight crushed her left foot. there was a clear crack as she fell on the ground moaning in pain. i was in shock as i watched it all right in front of me (i'm setting at the net).

a physiotherapist was on the other team so he came over right away and kept it sturdy with an ice pack and bound it up so that it would not move.

i drove her to VGH, fighting stupid drivers across our lovely cambie street and got to emergency. luckily we ran into SG's cousin who's a nurse and just finishing her shift for the day. she took care of EVERYTHING and SG was rushed into the ER, admitted, into a private room, got her foot reduced (it was dislocated as well), x-rayed, onto an IV, drugged up (twice cause the drugs weren't strong enough for her :b ), and had a bit of dinner all before midnight. If it wasn't for SG's cousin, we would have waited at least an hour or two before being looked at by a doctor or nurse!

she stayed the night and went into surgery the next morning. her foot was broken in 3 places! everything went well and now she's on crutches and a wheelchair for at least 8 weeks :( she's in good spirits and had a licorice right before i left to go back to work.

i'm upset because of what happened to SG and i'm pissed off at our teammate. what's stupid is that i had warned him just earlier NOT to be a ball-hog as he had run into ME when it was MY ball and tripped right back into him. the next ball that came over was the one that injured SG by HIM.

sure its an accident, but a preventable one if he wasn't so cocky, wasn't so concerned about making the BIG play, and thought about safety first.

my tip: don't play with people who are selfish and think they're hot sh*t.
